Events:
1777
The Continental Congress seeing that the British under General Howe could soon enter the city of Philadelphia leaves the city. They first settle in Lancaster and then later at York.

1777 The Battle of Saratoga. In North Western New York, British forces under General John Burgoyne and American forces under the command of General Horatio Gates begins. The British was trying to separate New England from the other states by capturing the Hudson Valley.

1778 The Continental Congress passes the first United States Budget.

Celebrated Birth:
Charles Carroll (b. 1739 – November 14, 1832) Maryland committee of Safety, member of the Second Continental Congress, signer of the Declaration of independence, and Senator from Maryland.
