After an unsuccessful attempt to repulse the French Fleet from the Chesapeake Bay Admiral Graves leaves the region for New York. This leaves General Cornwallis base in Virginia with no escape by sea.

Celebrated Birth:
Carter Braxton (b. 1736 – October 10, 1797) – Virginia Farmer, Virginia House of Burgesses, Delegate to the Continental Congress, signer of the Declaration of Independence.
