Mission San Gabriel Arcángel is founded by the Spanish Franciscan friar Junípero Serra. It is the fourth mission in the twenty-one mission chain in Alta California. It is in present day Montebello, California.

1780 Enoch Poor, a brigadier General under George Washington dies. When Washington wrote to inform Congress of Poor’s death, he said, “He was an officer of distinguished merit, one who as a citizen and soldier had every claim to the esteem and regard of his country.”
