Events:
1776
The first known submarine attack. The American submersible Turtle attempts to attach a time bomb to the hull of the HMS Eagle, Admiral Richard Howe’s flagship in New York Harbor.

1778 Shawnee Indians under Chief Blackfish, who was allied with the British, attacks and laid siege to Boonesborough, Kentucky. Blackfish had captured and adopted Daniel Boone, the founder of Boonesborough earlier in the year. Boone managed to escape from the Shawnees and led the defense of the settlement. The siege was unsuccessful. Daniel Boone however was court-martialed because fellow officers thought that he had British or Shawnee sympathies. Boone was acquitted, and then moved away from Boonesborough.
