A hurricane hits Guadeloupe sinking 100 French and Dutch ships and killing more than 6000.

1781 The Battle of Groton Heights takes place in Connecticut. British forces aided by Benedict Arnold attacks Ft. Griswold and then set fire to New London and Groton Bank.
