New York appoints Philip Livingston, Isaac Low, John Alsop, James Duane and John Jay as delegates to the First Continental Congress. The Congress is scheduled to begin meeting in Philadelphia in September.

Celebrated Birth:
William Hooper (b. 1742 – October 14, 1790) North Carolina Lawyer, member General Assembly of North Carolina, member of Continental Congress, signed Declaration of Independence.

Thomas Heywood (b. 1746 – March 6, 1809) South Carolina Lawyer, member of Continental Congress, signer of the Declaration of Independence.
