The design of the United States Seal is approved by the Continental Congress. Congress had originally formed a committee to design the seal on July 4, 1776, but after six years and three committees, nothing had been decided. The matter was turned over to Charles Thomson, Secretary of Congress, who merged elements from the pervious attempts.

Celebrated Birth:
Joseph Martin Kraus (b. 1756 – December 15 1792) German composer, referred to as “the Swedish Mozart”.
