March 18

1766
The Stamp Act is repealed. It was done due to the protests of merchants in Great Britain who felt the pinch of the nonimportation programs not because of the American arguments. 1766 Declaratory Act approved in wake of Stamp Act repeal. This act states that Britain; ‘had, hath, and of right ought to have, full power and authority to make laws and statutes of sufficient force and validity to bind the colonies and people of America, subjects of the crown of Great Britain, in all cases whatsoever.’
