Charles Humphreys dies. Humphreys served as a delegate for Pennsylvania to the Continental Congress from 1774 to 1776, voted against the Declaration of Independence, since he believed it would escalate a War that conflicted with his Quaker beliefs. He left the congress shortly afterwards.

Celebrated Birth:
Robert Treat Paine (b. 1731 – May 11, 1814) Massachusetts member of Continental Congress, signed the Declaration of Independence.
