The American ship Ranger arrives in port in France. It is flying a recently adopted Star and Stripes banner making it the first ship to arrive at a foreign port bearing a flag of the United States.

1779 American Patriots defeats a group of American loyalist at Kettle Creek, Georgia.

1779 Captain James Cook is killed by natives on the Sandwich (Hawaiian) Islands.
