The Treaty of Paris, ending the American Revolutionary War between the Kingdom of Great Britain and the Thirteen Colonies in North America, is ratified by the US Continental Congress. The treaty had been signed in England on September 3, 1783 by David Hartley, member of the British Parliament, John Adams, Benjamin Franklin, and John Jay representing the United States.

1788 François Joseph Paul, comte de Grasse dies. He was the French admiral in charge of the French Fleet during the battle of Yorktown.

Celebrated Birth:
Benedict Arnold (b. 1741 – June 14, 1801) General of the Continental Army. He will forever be known as a traitor having developed a plot to turn West point over to the British, but in the early days of the revolution he was a valuable General. His traitorous plot was discovered and Arnold turned to the side of the British and finally fled to England.
