The American Patriots wins a major victory in Princeton. With this victory and one a few days earlier at Trenton, France is encouraged enough to send badly needed supplies to America.

1781 Troops from Pennsylvania set up camp near Princeton, New Jersey. They choose their own representatives to negotiate with Pennsylvanian state officials. The crisis is eventually resolved through negotiations, but over half of the mutineers leave the army.

1785 Venetian composer Baldassarre Galuppi dies. He is noted for operas and pieces for harpsichord.
