Jeremiah Dixon dies. Dixon was an English surveyor who worked with Charles Mason determining the borders of Pennsylvania, Maryland and Delaware (The Mason-Dixon Line).

1788 Cyrus Griffin becomes the ninth and last President of the United States in Congress Assembled under the Articles of Confederation replacing Arthur St. Clair. The Constitution of the United States replaces the Articles of Confederation and George Washington becomes President of the United Sates of America on April 30, 1789.
