General George Washington’s retreating troops cross the Delaware River from New Jersey into Pennsylvania.

1787 The Mission La Purísima Concepción is founded by Father Fermín Francisco de Lasuén, becoming the eleventh mission in the California mission chain. It is located east of the City of Lompoc, California, between Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo.
