The first of a series of letters written by John Dickinson in criticism of the Townshend Acts is published in the Philadelphia Chronicle & Universal Advertiser. The letters are later collected and published in a pamphlet titled Letters from a Farmer in Pennsylvania to the Inhabitants of the British Colonies.

Celebrated Birth:
John Breckinridge (b. 1760 – December 14, 1806) served in the Virginia militia during the U.S. Revolutionary War. It wasn’t until after the Revolutionary Period that he won his fame first as a senator from the new state of Kentucky and as Attorney General under President Thomas Jefferson.
