John Hancock of Massachusetts becomes the seventh President of the United States in Congress Assembled under the Articles of Confederation replacing Richard Henry Lee. Nathaniel Gorham succeeds him on June 6, 1786.

Celebrated Birth:
Edward Rutledge (b. 1749 – January 23, 1800) South Carolina member of Continental Congress, signed the Declaration of Independence, Captain Charleston Battalion of Artillery.

Abraham Baldwin (b. 1754 – March 4, 1807) Georgia member of the Continental Congress, member of the Constitutional Convention, signed the Constitution.
