The Townshend Act goes into effect. This was an importation duty placed on glass, paint paper and tea to help defray the expenses of maintaining the standing army.

1776 Fort Lee is loss. After the fall of Fort Washington, Fort Lee was untenable. Lord Cornwallis pursued the dwindling American army across New Jersey. The army finally crossed to safety into Pennsylvania.

1778 New Jersey ratifies the Articles of Confederation.

Francesco Saverio Castiglioni, who would become Pope Pius VIII and serve from March 1829 to December 1830.

Celebrated Birth:
Tipu Sultan, also known as The Tiger of Mysore (November 20, 1750 – May 4, 1799) The ruler the Kingdom of Mysore, India from the time of his father’s death in 1782 until his death in 1799.
