1774 The Continental Association is created by The First Continental Congress to enforce boycotts in an attempt to force repeal of the objectionable legislation. This is to be done by creating and enforcing a total boycott against trade with Britain, Ireland and the British West Indies.

1781 The Patent of Tolerance, which provides limited freedom of worship, is approved by the Habsburg Monarchy in Austria.

Event:
1765 The American Stamp Act Congress meeting in New York adopts The Declaration of Rights and Grievances which raises fourteen points of colonial protest against the Stamp Act as well as only colonial assemblies had the right to tax the colonies and Parliament could not represent the colonist.

1781 Lord Cornwallis surrenders his British Army at Yorktown Virginia. His surrender is the beginning of the events that lead to the end of the war between Great Britain and the United States of America.

1767 The survey team of Charles Mason and Jeremiah Dixon completes their assignment to survey the newly established boundaries between the Province of Pennsylvania, the Province of Maryland, Delaware Colony and parts of Colony and Old Dominion of Virginia.

Event:
1777 British General Burgoyne surrenders at Saratoga. The British had planned to separate New England from the rest of the colonies by capturing the Hudson River valley. This ended the plan and was a turning point in the War for Independence.

1779 The American Army under the leadership of General George Washington opens their winter camp at Morristown, New Jersey. The winter of 1778 is one of the worst ever and Washington’s troops spend another winter with few supplies. Morale is low and there are desertions as well as attempts at mutiny.

1781 As Yorktown is about to be taken, the British send out a flag of truce. Washington and Cornwallis begin to determine the terms of surrender.

Jacob Broom (b. 1752 – April 25, 1810) Delaware member of the Constitutional Convention, signed the Constitution.

1773 East India Company tea ships’ cargo is burned at Annapolis, Maryland.

1774 Congress approves Declaration of Rights and Grievances.

1780 George Washington names Nathanael Greene commander of the Southern Army. Greene takes command on December 2, 1780 at Charlotte, North Carolina.

Francis Lightfoot Lee (b. 1734 – January 11, 1797) Virginian, member of Virginia House of Burgesses, member of Continental Congress, signed the Declaration of Independence.

Event:
1775 The Continental Congress orders the establishment of the Continental Navy. The original intent was to intercept the supply of arms and provisions to British soldiers. George Washington had already informed Congress that he had assumed command of several ships. Other governments of the colonies had outfitted their own warships.

Event:
1776 On Lake Champlain near Valcour Island, a British fleet led by Sir Guy Carleton defeats 15 American gunboats commanded by Benedict Arnold. Even though nearly all of Arnold’s ships are destroyed, the two day long battle helps give Patriot forces enough time to prepare defenses of New York City.

1779 Kazimierz Pulaski dies after being wounded while leading during a cavalry charge at the battle of Savannah. Pulaski was a notable member of the Polish gentry. He was the commander of the Bar Confederation against the Russian domination of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. When this failed, he moved to America to assist the American Army during the Revolutionary War.
