1777 The Continental Congress having fled Philadelphia assembles in the brick York County Court House. Charles Thomson, the veteran secretary of Congress, records that body’s only action that day: “Met and adjourned to 10 o’Clock to Morrow.” There are not enough members in the town to meet.
1788 Pennsylvania elects the first two United States Senators, Robert Morris and William Maclay.
